A hospitality designation for neighborhood businesses
Senioritis is a Bay Area senior care platform serving Vietnamese, Filipino, Hispanic, and Korean American families. Seniors Welcome Here is the part of our platform that works on the world outside the home — helping older adults get back into neighborhood life without turning a café or salon into a care setting.
What we are building
- Neighborhood businesses — restaurants, cafés, bakeries, salons, and more — commit publicly to four standards of hospitality toward older customers.
- Businesses that meet the standard display a decal and are listed in the Senioritis app.
- A participating business may set aside seats for older customers and make them reservable. An older adult who reserves a seat is a customer of that business, purchasing hospitality: a reserved table, a meal or beverage, and a welcoming place to spend an afternoon.
Four standards of hospitality
- A place to sit down
- Time to complete a transaction without pressure
- Staff who speak the customer's language, where available
- A restroom available without asking twice
What this is not
Stated plainly, so families and businesses share the same understanding.
- Not care
- No business assists with medications, toileting, bathing, dressing, eating, mobility, or any health-related service.
- Not supervision
- No employee is assigned to any older customer. No business observes, monitors, accompanies, or tracks a customer, or controls her movements.
- Not an adult day program
- No business holds itself out as providing care and supervision.
- Not a substitute for a caregiver
- Where an older adult needs care, Senioritis provides caregivers through a separate service.
Why Join Seniors Welcome Here?
Hospitality, not care
Older adults who reserve a seat are customers purchasing hospitality — a table, a meal or beverage, and a welcoming place to spend time. Your staff owe them the same duty as any customer, and no more.
- Families reserve a seat and time; you receive the posted minimum for that reserved hospitality.
- If the customer spends above the minimum, your business keeps 100% of the difference — Senioritis takes no share.
- No required senior discount or special menu.
